My child, I know the hour when the fear comes. It is rarely at noon, when the day is loud and your hands are busy. But it often comes in the dark when the house has settled and there is nothing left between you and your own thoughts. In that quiet, your mind begins to walk into a future I have not yet given you. It shows you the diagnosis. The empty chair. The money that runs out. The phone call you dread. And you lie there and try to carry a day that has not come.
I want you to hear Me. You are afraid of a road you have never walked. But I have already walked it.
The Road Is Not Empty
You picture the days ahead as a dark country with no one in it. That is the lie fear tells. It shows you the trouble but hides Me from the picture. It lets you see the storm and edits out the One who sleeps in the boat and rises at a word.
Every tomorrow you dread, I am already standing in. I am not waiting at the beginning of the road, watching you go. I am at the far end of it, and at every turn between. There is no year of your life I have to be introduced to. There is no loss that will surprise Me. Before you take a single step into what is coming, My feet have already pressed down the path.
The Scripture says it plainly. The Lord Himself goes before you, and He will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. That is not poetry to comfort children. It is a promise from the One who holds time in His hands.
I Do Not Give You Tomorrow’s Grace Today
Perhaps this is why you feel unready. You look at what may come and you think, I could never survive that. And you are right. You could not survive it with the strength you have today. That is because I have not given you that strength yet.
I feed My people the way I fed them in the desert. Bread for the day. Enough, and no more. They could not store it up, and when they tried, it spoiled. Not because I am withholding, but because I wanted them to come back to My hands each morning.
So when you look at your future and feel weak, do not despair. You are not weak. You are simply looking at a burden with grace that has not yet been poured. When the day arrives, the grace arrives with it. It has never once been late.
What Fear Has Cost You
Consider what the fear has already taken. Nights you did not sleep for a thing that never happened. Joys you did not taste because you were bracing for a blow. Hours with the people you love, spent somewhere else in your mind.
I do not say this to shame you. I say it because I love you and I want those hours back for you. Do not let dread spend a life I gave you to live. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble, and I will meet you in each one.
Give Me the Road
You do not have to see the whole way to walk it. You only have to trust the One who does. Tonight, when the fear returns and begins to build its dark picture, speak to Me instead. Name the thing you are afraid of. Say it out loud. Then hand it forward into My hands, where it already is.
I have paved the way. Not with ease, perhaps. But with My presence, which is better. And when you finally arrive at the place you feared most, you will find Me already there, waiting for you, with everything you need.
You are not walking into the unknown. You are walking into the country of your Father, who has gone ahead of you and prepared the ground beneath your feet.
A Prayer for the Fearful Heart
Lord Jesus, my heart runs ahead of me into days You have not yet given.
I lay down what I cannot see. I lay down the fear of what may come, the losses I imagine, the strength I do not yet have.
Teach me to receive this day only, and to trust that You are already standing in every tomorrow I dread.
Go before me, Lord. Level the road. Quiet my mind tonight, and let me rest in the certainty that wherever I arrive, You will be there first.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
