The Miracle of Liquefaction

On 16 Dec, the blood of St. Januarius experienced the “miracle of the liquefaction” for the third time in 2022 as reported by the newspaper Corriere della Sera.

That morning the abbot of the chapel treasury, Monsignor Vincenzo De Gregorio, opened the safe containing the Saint Januarius’ reliquary and found that the blood inside appeared completely solid, but an unexpected change in it’s state occurred two hours later.

Who Is St. Januarius?

Saint Januarius, also known as San Gennaro in Italian, is a Catholic saint who is venerated in Naples, Italy and is also the patron saint of Naples. He was a bishop known for his bravery in defending his people and was martyred during the reign of Emperor Diocletian.

According to tradition, his blood is preserved in a sealed glass vial as a relic and is believed to liquefy on certain special occasions, often as a signal of good things to come. Scientists have been unable to explain the miracle of liquefaction of St. Januarius’ blood.
