The Master Key
The Bible details what qualifies to be faith. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” Hebrews 11:6 (KJV). Faith is intangible, it makes no sense to unbelievers but means a lot to the body of Christ. God told Moses that nobody has ever seen Him and lived. Jesus confirms it when He says “No man hath seen the Father at any time; only the begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared Him” John 1:18 (KJV).
However, we believe in God by Faith. We also believe in His Son, Jesus Christ whom He sent to the world to die for our sins. Our relationship with God is founded on faith.
“But without faith, it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” Hebrews 11:6 (KJV).
Faith is the master key to unlocking a healthy relationship with God.
Growing Your Faith in God
Faith can be developed and nurtured to maturity. It is a conscious decision that one makes. In Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans, he writes, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” Romans 10:17 (KJV).
What we give attention to can either build or suppress our faith. Our ears are the gates to receiving faith. The gates to important premises are guarded not to give access to unauthorized people. Similarly, we should be careful with what we hear. They can either build our faith in God or completely kill even the little faith that we have.
Our faith in God can be weakened by life’s circumstances but we can strengthen it and keep our trust fixed in Him.
Ways we can strengthen our faith in God include:
1. Staying in a Godly Environment
Our environment plays a major role in our lives. We are products of our environments and we have little or no power at all to resist its influence over us. When you stay in an ungodly environment, you will be corrupted and conform to it.
The Bible explains how our relationship with the world ought to be. “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever, therefore, will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” James 4:4 (KJV).
To grow your faith in God, stay within the confines of godliness.
2. Purpose to See the Good Out of Every Situation
There are many challenges in the life of a Christian as King David writes in Psalms that the afflictions of the righteous are many but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
The choice to see roses in thorns or thorns in roses is wholly dependent on you. Your faith in God grows when you appreciate the good out of every situation instead of whining and complaining. Nothing can stop God from being God regardless of the prevailing situation.
3. Glorify God in All Things
Giving glory to God is the inherent duty of man. When we give God all the glory, our faith in Him grows because we appreciate His input in our lives.
For our faith in God to grow, we should glorify Him who makes all things happen in His own time. We cannot overlook His goodness every day in our lives.
Renewed Spirituality
Our spirituality is a work in progress. There are ups and downs along the way. Our faith in God gets stronger when our faith in Him is renewed daily. Faith is an integral ingredient in the life of a born-again Christian.
Renewed spirituality rejuvenates our faith in Him and we lead a purpose-filled life in Christ. In Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans, he writes “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith” Romans 1:17 (KJV).
The Bible emphasizes how the just shall live – by faith. It is impossible to live on dormant faith because, in due time, it shall die a natural death and thereafter live blindly.
The Joy of Renewed Spirituality
What joy is it to be renewed daily in the Lord! Your faith in Him is boosted when you are on the brink of giving up. You stand out in a world full of disappointments and people wonder where you draw your strength from.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint”
Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
Your spirituality greatly determines your life. It is a pointer to whether or not your strength shall fail you. The Bible promises victory to those who renew their strength in the Lord.
Drawing Closer to God
God beckons us to draw nearer to Him and He will be found within us. Our faith in God is strengthened when we see Him at work in our lives.
Similar to the way we have clarity of vision when we are closer to an experience, so do we understand the magnanimity of God when we draw nearer to Him.
We can get closer to God through our daily actions and grow our faith in Him through the following ways:
1. Acting Boldly
God loves when we are bold. Timidity and fear are weapons of the enemy. He wants us to be bold because we are His children.
“Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” Hebrews 4:16 (KJV).
We can live boldly only when we have strong faith in God to provide for us according to His perfect will.
2. Striving to Live a Holy Life
Holiness is a journey that all believers must take. God is strongly attracted by it and He repels sin of any form.
“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy” 1 Peter 1:16 (KJV).
Holiness is the highway to getting close to God.
In conclusion, strengthening our faith in God is a deliberate decision that we make every day. It bears fruit when we are persistent in getting closer to Him.
