Prayer to St. Rita for Impossible Causes

How often do we find ourselves standing at the precipice of hopelessness, looking out at challenges that appear insurmountable? We all have had our impossible moments—situations where solutions seem elusive, and the road ahead uncertain. But the story of St. Rita of Cascia, the patroness of impossible causes, offers a beacon of hope for those navigating the rough seas of life.

St. Rita’s Story – Perseverance & Trust In The Lord

Born in the 14th century, St. Rita’s life was anything but a smooth sail. Her early years were marked by her desire to join the convent, yet, out of obedience, she married. This marriage, far from being a fairytale, was fraught with difficulty and personal disappointments. Yet, in these trying times, Rita did not waver in her faith. Through patience and prayer, she bore her cross, believing in God’s divine plan.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” // Jeremiah 29:11

This scriptural promise was echoed throughout Rita’s life. Despite facing marital strife, she bore two sons and worked diligently to bring her husband closer to God. Tragically, after his death, she faced the additional pain of her sons vowing revenge. Rita fervently prayed for their souls, exemplifying the essence of the next verse:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” // Proverbs 3:5

After the deaths of her husband and sons, Rita once again felt the calling to religious life. Initially, her entry into the convent was denied. But with characteristic perseverance, she was eventually admitted into the Augustinian nuns in Cascia.

Why is St. Rita associated with impossible causes?

Her life, marked by trials, resonates deeply with those who face seemingly impossible odds. Rita’s experiences with marital difficulties, familial tragedies, and the challenges of religious life deem her a beacon of hope. She believed fervently that with God, everything was possible.

“What is impossible with man is possible with God.” // Luke 18:27

When we feel the weight of the impossible, St. Rita serves as a testament to the power of faith and perseverance. Through her intercession, we are reminded that our struggles do not go unnoticed by the Divine. Especially in these areas:

  • Marital Strife: St. Rita’s enduring faith amidst a challenging marriage offers solace to those in troubled unions.
  • Loss of Loved Ones: Her strength in the face of personal loss provides comfort to the grieving.
  • Vocational Challenges: Her journey to the convent is a testament to patience and God’s perfect timing.

Calling upon St. Rita in prayer connects us with a connection with our faith that transcends time, reminding us that with God, no cause is truly impossible.
